Read Aloud Task Description
A passage/text will be displayed on the computer screen. The candidate will have 40 seconds to prepare for the actual recording on the computer.
Then the recording will start.
Candidate should start speaking within 3 seconds after the beep’s sound otherwise the task will get skipped automatically.
II. SCORING CRITERIA
This task is assessed on the basis of three major things: Content, Fluency, Pronunciation.

1. To score high in content
- Speak all words carefully
- Do not add or omit any word
- Do not repeat the words
2. To score high in Fluency
- Maintain Right speed of the reading
- No Corrections shall made
- Fumbles/hesitations should strictly avoid
3. To score high in Pronunciation
- Speak as clearly as possible
- Be careful with ‘s’ and ‘ed’ sounds
- Practice Right pronunciation – syllable to syllable
- Practice right intonation – voice should raise and lower according to the word
Note:
- Do not change or imitate any accent.
- Make sure there is a split second gap between two words.
Word of caution:
Do not run through the passage quickly as told by many PTE instructors, instead take your time, speak clearly, practice the right pronunciation.

What we should do we should break the information in different parts and speak each part on the whole and then take a split second pause.

Let us underline the passage into different pieces of information.

Generally…. in the past….. even in Europe…. until the 18th century…..it was assumed that… it could tell… how any society should work.

Speak as if you are explaining it to someone or reading news for someone.
Don’t speak in a monotonous manner. Your speech should follow right intonation i.e. stress the words wherever required.

Take small pauses at commas and long pauses at full stops, but make sure you do not stop for more than three seconds as it will stop the recording there itself.

7. Tip # 7 Try to speak at least two times the passage
Try to speak at least two times the passage displayed on the screen during the preparation time of 40 seconds. This will help you to notice the words which are difficult to pronounce. Murmuring in the mouth will not help your case, so it is better to speak even during the preparation time which will also help you to ignore the voices of other test-takers in the centre and focus on your task.
