I. Summarize Spoken Text – Tips PTE Summarize Spoken Text 79+
In SST, we can write a maximum of 70 words summary. The time allowed is 10 minutes and these 10 minutes are accounted independent to the rest of the listening section, so you should make use of the full 10 minutes. Scores are given based on the quality of writing and our ability to get the maximum out of the spoken lecture.

First of all, let us discuss the most common method.
Generally, people will write a summary with templates such as below:
The speaker was discussing (write the main keyword from the lecture).
He/she mentioned that (write something from the lecture).
He/She then discussed (write something from the lecture).
Furthermore, he/she talked about (write something from the lecture).
Finally, the speaker concluded that (write something from the lecture).
Tricks Magical have introduce to the Template for PTE about Speaking, Listening and Writing Section.
1. The sample of SST
Audio Text:
The debt today is so high, it’s two hundred thousand rupees, three hundred thousand rupees of a peasant who have no capital. They, who know within a year or two, when they accumulate that kind of debt. They will never be able to pay back. Where is the debt coming from? It’s coming from a seed that is costing a hundred thousand to two hundred thousand rupees per kilogram, depending on what you got. The seed that used to be free, used to be theirs. Pesticides each time, the more they use, the more they have to use, 12 sprays, 15 sprays, 20 sprays.

Pesticides used in just the last five years in the land areas of India has shot up by 2000 per cent. That’s what the free market and globalization have brought. And since we are talking about peasants, who have no money, who have no capital, they can only buy expensive seeds and expensive pesticides by borrowing. And who lend them that money? The same companies that sell the pesticides, which are the same companies that sell the seeds, as you know, are now also the major creditors.
2. Tends to write a summary
In response to the above audio, most of the student tends to write a summary like below:
The lecturer was discussing debt of Indian peasants. He mentioned that the debt is rising due to the high cost of the seeds. Then he compared the cost of seed at present times to the past times when seeds used to be free. He also said that free market and globalization lead to rise in the use of pesticides. He concluded that debt is rising as peasant are borrowing money.
Total words – 70 (Maximum allowed are 70 only)
Now if you notice, it is a well-written summary, but still, it has a scope of improvement. How?
Now let us highlight the words which lecturer never spoke:
The lecturer was discussing debt of Indian peasants. He mentioned that the debt is rising due to the high cost of the seeds. Then he compared the cost of seed at present times to the past times when seeds used to be free. He also said that free market and globalization lead to rise in the use of pesticides. He concluded that debt is rising as peasant are borrowing money.
So, the highlighted words above bears no value to the context of the lecture.
If we count these words they are 17 in numbers. So, 17 out of allowed 70 words means around 25% redundant words.
Thus, say we are expecting 10 marks out of this summary, we would end-up getting only 7.5 marks.

II. Trick and tips PTE Summarize Spoken Text 79+
In order to write a good SST, we need to get rid of these redundant words.
17 words in itself mean one complete sentence. So, we can add more value to our SST by avoiding such words.
Let us try to write it again without using these words, yet we will try to main a smooth sentence flow and written discourse.
The debt of Indian peasants is rising due to the high cost of the seeds they buy for growing crops. The cost of seed presently is quite high as compared with the past when the seeds used to be free. Moreover, the free market and globalization lead to a rise in the use of pesticides. Thus, the peasants are borrowing more money from the seed suppliers for pesticides and seeds.
Thus, we have squeezed more information within the same word count. We have not only removed redundant words but we have used connectors which ensures our score in written discourse enabling skills. This will help us to score high in both Listening and writing. We have observed this minute change in the approach helped many students who struggle in listening scores.
